“Musica Spirituale” is a collection of four works by Arvo Pärt, Florence Price, Giacinto Scelsi, and Franco Battiato that are centered around the theme of contemplation. The first piece, L’Egitto prima delle sabbie by Battiato, is a simple repetition of sounds for a quarter of an hour, inviting the listener to pause. Scelsi’s L’âme ailée / L’âme ouverte is also a piece that invites contemplation, while Pärt’s Spiegel im Spiegel is a classic piece that encourages the mind to be free from pretensions. The collection ends with Adoration by Price, a more conventional piece music-wise that brings the listener back to a pleasant and gentle atmosphere.
